Mary met her husband Chris at Orientation in 1967 - they married a year later. and after 2 years they traveled around the world for their honeymoon. She recalls how Canadians were 'different' and looked up to for not being colonialist.

The impact of volunteers on development is difficult to quantify. Volunteers changed the attitudes of Canadians towards the developing world starting with the War in Biafra in 1967.

He left fishing gear in the chilly waters of the North Atlantic to teach fisheries in the South Pacific. Wayne quickly learned the language, developed good rapport with elders, lived on coconut and the gorgeous shiny long tailed snappers.
